I'm thrilled to have published A Weapon of Last Resort at Inquest, the online ideas forum published by the Institute to End Mass Incarceration (December 6, 2022). I argue for the imperative to defend incarcerated persons' right to resort to hunger strike without denying its disruptive, coercive, self-destructive character, and on the basis of the constitutional right to petition the government for redress. The longer academic article on which this piece is based is forthcoming at the American Political Science Review.
